tubero

one of the perks of living alone is you get to do anything you please *wink, wink*, i mean, you can arrange your furnitures the way you want it, you can watch any tv show or any film that you fancy, you can turn your refrigerator as your storage room (hehehe), and so on... the downside of it is, well, you also got to do everything by yourself, and it is not limited to just cleaning the house, cooking, washing the clothes and the dishes, ironing, you also got to fix or at least, learn how to fix little stuffs that your dad use to do.

enter a leaking faucet, then a detached/broken hose of the toilet flush...

who you gonna call? a plumber? super mario brothers? dial 911? or make a long distance call to quezon and ask my dad to come over and fix it?

nah. i have to learn the ropes. fixing these things is not rocket science, it only requires common sense and your body's ability to bend to the extremes hehe. and taking notes of the measurements, too. hehe

for a few days, the toilet flush is not working so the buhos, old-school style is the way of life. i bought a hose (i forgot how it's being called, faucet hose? hehe) 1/4" to faucet opening and 1/2" to angle valve.
easy does it? WRONG!!!!

the 1/2" to angle valve is small! i thought the size is standard, syempre mali ako. geez, i have to rush to the nearest hardware store to buy a new one, a bigger one, nasayang tuloy yung P79 ko sa Ace hardware. anyway, nandyan na yan so might as well live with it. pwede naman syang reserba hehehe.

i have learned that when comes to anything construction-related, measurement is very, very important. na-perfect ko nga yung measurement ng tiles ng bahay tapos itong sa simpleng hose, eng-eng ako? hehehe. oh well, small details really matter.

anyway, after a 10 minute bike run to the hardware, and after a few twist at konting silip, the toilet flush is again running. yihaa, and i sweat a lot for this little work. mahirap kaya yung halos nakadapa malapit sa likuran ng toilet bowl, good thing mine is clean (pano kaya kung tubero ka tapos dugyot yung cr na aayusin mo? ay, wag nang isipin).

and the other leaking faucet in the sink is just a walk in the park. with a generous serving of vulcaseal pa yan ha. chicken!

one step to being a DIY-man. :)
enter super mario brothers' theme song hehe.

CONGRATULATIONS! i live alone, too, and it has made me more patient and skilled in the hardware department.

i remember trying to work on the wiring of my tv set, trying to connect it to my dvd player. i sweated and ultimately cried out of frustration.

it's working now. but the sound's not perfect.

methinks i should work on getting a man now. i'm so sorry feminists, there's a limit and i've reached mine.

galing naman! Sana pinapalitan mo yung nabili mo kung nagkamali ka lang ng size para hindi nasayang yung P79.00 mo :)

When I first lived alone, I was lucky to stumble on this thick book at a discount store - Do-It-Yourself Repair Handbook. That's where I learned. But as I got older, I had to rely on a variety of repairmen to get things done because I could no longer bend this way and that ... nakuuuu, sakit ng ulo at bulsa ko!

advise ko lang tol wag mo na kunan ng picture next time, kasi ebidensya na baligtad ang pagkakakabit mo ng mga parts.

hahahaha joke lang, baka baligtad lang sa picture ;)

belle, yes it does felt good! i also realized that i can also save from some labor cost from doing it myself. :)

atticus, i think doing these things are part of the training, our dads may have gone thru the same thing hehe.

the things that i cannot do right now, at least less-confidently, are those electric-related, you know electric connections, plugs, i am still "afraid" of being electricuted, but it's different when it comes to cables/connections of appliances, i guess men have inborn talent when it comes to gadget-related activities. :)

jho, since kuripot ako naisip ko rin yan pero di practical kasi kung magpapalit pa ko sa ace ibig sabihin kelangan ko pang bumalik sa kanila at medyo malayo rin yun sa bahay hehehe. :)

bugsbybee, wow, so pinag-aralan mo pala talaga? my dad tought me things about construction when i helped him to reconstruct the ground floor of our old house, natuto akong maglagare, magpako, ianggulo yung kahoy, etc. at ako rin lagi ang in-charge pagdating sa pagpipintura :)

ferdz, plumbing service? naku mahirap yan, ni hindi ko nga alam anong tawag sa tool na ginamit ko eh hehehe, wrench ba yun? :)

mon, baliktad ba? i have no idea. hehehe. sinundan ko lang kasi yung dating pagkakalagay/pagkakaayos, ang mahalaga okey na sya hehehe. :)

i can relate to this DIY matters. but thank God not the plumbing yet. i assembled my dining set, bedframe, changed bulb, fixed things etc. etc...with sweat & all. ok naman so far.

but i agree with atticus! hehehe

hahahahahahaha i had fun reading this one. dumudugo ilong ko sa measurements na yun. i never liked industrial arts during elementary class. huhuhuhuhu

anyways, basta problem sa haus... dial landlord's number! di kaya, katulong sa bahay! hehehehe

ey, wow, astig ka ha, diy woman ka pala!

intsik, hehehe, if i am still renting a place i'll harass the landlord of course, but no more landlord, so it's just me, myself and i on these things. :)
